Food Hunt: Hakka Tree

Speaking
of Hakka cuisine, they always emphasises on its original flavors, nutritional value and practicality rather than just its appearance. Hakka also means 'guest' in Chinese word have retained much of their ancestors' lifestyle and culture and have blend in well with other ethnic groups.

Hakka cuisine always remind me something traditional yet mouth-watering Chinese
dishes which includes, Beef meatball soup(牛肉丸湯), Dongjiang salt-baked chicken(東江鹽焗雞 ), Duck stuffed with sticky rice(糯米鴨), Yoong Tau Fu(釀豆腐), Kiu nyuk (扣肉) ,Abacus beads(算盤子), Thunder Tea or Pounded Tea (擂茶)......

Last Saturday, my friend and I decide to have something new to suit our appetites after catching a movie in the cinema. When we go down to the basement to hunt for food, something catch our eyes, a new shop open in Gurney Plaza--Hakka Tree 客家福.

So, we decide to settle our dinner at there.

Check out what have we order:

Fried Bean Curd Sheet & Fish Cake
The crispiness of the bean curd sheet and the Fish Cake dipped with their signature chili sauce is like a BOOM in your mouth.

Some chopped garlic is added into the chili sauce and it is really a brilliant idea as it add a KICK into your taste bud before you start your meals.

Hakka Thunder Tea Rice (RM8.90)
This restaurant have another option which are brown rice & noodles rather than just white rice. It is highly recommended for those who are on diet as this meal is simple yet healthy.

A combination of vegetables, fried tofu and some marinated vege which add a little bit of saltiness into the dish. The 'green' soup beside is to pour into the rice and mix well with the element inside the bowl. The 'green' soup is actually several vegetables blend together & when I first try it, a mild basil is tasted inside the soup.

I am kinda person that get crazy over basil especially when it comes to Thunder Tea Rice, I personally feel that it would be much more better if the flavour of the basil is stronger.

Dry Low She Fun with Yoong Tau Fu (RM13.90)
The restaurant offer a few selection of set meals which are worth the price as it comes along with side dishes. Dry Low She Fun with a generous bunch of bean sprouts and minced meat serve along with a side dish--Yoong Tau Fu.

How can you not try Yoong Tau Fu when it comes to Hakka cuisine??? The tofu, bitter gourd, chili, eggplant and the bean curd sheet stuffed with fish paste which serve together with soup. The Yoong Tau Fu taste superb when it is eaten together with their signature chili sauce.

The Yoong Tau Fu is delicious but when it comes to the Low She Fun, it is kinda disappointing as it is lack of flavour even though it is already mix well with the sauce.

Dry Keoy Teow with Dumplings and Fish Balls Soup(RM11.90)
This is another set meal which is also price worthy. Dry Keoy Teow with a big bunch of bean sprouts and minced meat served along with a bowl of dumplings & fish balls soup.

My friend, Zhulyn, always get crazy over bean sprouts and when the waitress serve her meal, she is like :" WOW, so many bean sprouts!!! My favourite!!!"

The fish ball is very bouncy and juicy, I wonder what will happen if I throw it towards the wall, will it bounce back??? Should give a try next time. Hahaha.

The dry Keoy Teow is also lack of flavour even it is mixed well with the sauce, but not until the fish balls soup is added into it. It taste much more better as it add some flavour rather than just the bland dry Keoy Teow.
Fu Chuk Yee Mai (RM 4.90)
The taste of the dessert is nice , but it would be more better if more Fu Chuk is added into the dessert. Some ginkgo are added into the dessert. Most people believe that having this dessert can help in whitening & detoxification.

Hahaha believe it or not???  Why not give a try???

Fried Purple Yam (RM 5.90)
The purple yam wrap with layer of popiah skin and deep fried it, making it a delightful dessert. I mean who can resist this sinful little devils???

When I take my 1st bite, it is crispy and yet not losing the thick flavour of the purple yam.
Yummy!!!

Sugarcane (RM2.90)
After having those fried foods, it is good to have something to bring down the heat and TADAA!!! This thing really helps a lot--sugarcane.

It is a super simple, cooling & refreshing drink that will help to quench the thirst & beat the heat.

My friends -- Kate & Mong Khim really enjoy their meals. They say that some of the foods are delicious but some of them are below average. We have a great time together and I hope that we can spend more time together as recently everybody are busy with their own stuffs.

Hahaha, nearly forget to mention another friend--Shi Ning who actually eat her food before photos been taken as she is feeling hungry when the food is served. Ishhh!!!

Blessed Day

Yesterday
night I attended a christian choir themed: ''Glorious Night of Hymns" in TARC college with my friend, Andrew. This is my 1st time attending a christian choir so I'm kinda exciting.

When we reach TARC college, I can saw that the auditorium is crowded, so immediately we look for a place to sit down. Before the choir start, I flipped through the booklet provided, wondering what is the meaning of Hymns.

The event start on time and the MC gave us a brief of their theme. Hymn is actually ancient song written for the congregation since the Reformation.Nowadays the new generations are not interested in singing hymns for it is too demanding in singing, hence gradually showing a backslide in singing in churches.

Their aims is to introduce beautiful Hymn that will never be outdated in any decades of time & to promote the attitude of Hymn singing which is the most important way of rejuvenating Hymns singing.

Combination of the Yi Qi choir with the orchestra just blow me away as the performance is amazing!!! It really bring a piece of mind after listening to the choir. All those worries, sorrow & stress just simply flushed away.

Program of the night:

1. Our Father Who Art In Heaven

Extra credit for Andrew for helping me taking this picture from one of his friends.

After that Andrew suggest to have hamburgers for supper and he recommend me that there is a hamburger stall who sell yummy burgers at Batu Ferringi. I'm like " What?!! Are we going to Batu Ferringi for a burger???"

Andrew says:" YUP" & he just drove his car to Batu Ferringi. It sounds kinda crazy, but he say he use to do so with his friends. So both of us just went up to Batu Ferringi to buy hamburgers.

The burger stall is just opposite of the Eden Parade & you can see that they sell different variety of burgers, other that fish, chicken, mutton & pork, they also sell ostrich, rabbit and deer hamburgers which surprise me a lot. I order the Fish burger while Andrew order a Jumbo Special which is not seen in their menu.

After that we headed down to Straits Quay's Starbucks coffee shop to enjoy our supper.

Having our supper-- Hamburgers with Starbucks Double Chocolaty Chip Frappucino !!!

The fish burger is so spicy even though no chili is added into it but the Jumbo special is indeed special, the melted cheese combined with the meat, cucumber and eggs are really satisfying both hungry soul. Really worth it for driving miles and miles away up to that place.HAHAHA.

The cool sea breeze, yummy burgers and the amazing choir really make my day. *winks*

Rhythm Of The Rain

Today
my friend & I decide to have a movie after a long hard work for the past few days. While we are deciding which movie to watch, Kate suddenly suggest to watch " Rhythm of The Rain".

Hmmm......I have actually heard good comment about this movie and yet it is directed by Vincent Fang, a talented man. You can actually see this link to know more about him.

http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%96%B9%E6%96%87%E5%B1%B1

Grab our popcorn & beverages, we enter the cinema to enjoy our movie.

Movie for 3 ladies please.

The story line of this movie is the girl who named Xiao Jie trapped in the world of silent after a tragic accident. She immersed herself in an animated night market, making a simple living as a doll maker.

Allen & Darren, two best friends with different personality. Allen a free-loving, hot headed & exuberant singer. Darren a quiet, caring and refined artist. Upon a chance meeting in the night markets, both guys fall over Xiao Jie's beauty & innocent.

Allen dives straight into courtship without realising that Xiao Jie cannot enter his world of music as she is deaf and this makes a torn between their love while Darren stand aside and keep his feelings towards Xiao Jie. However Darren become the person who trusted the most after Allen breaks Xiao Jie's heart.

It is a happy ending as at the end, Xiao Jie accept to undergo a surgery of her ear at Singapore and slowly she recover and at last she regain her ability of hearing.

The storyline is awesome!!! No wonder this movie have such a good comment & rating. The movie theme song match well together with the movie too. I keep recalling the scene of the movie when I listen to the song over & over again. Not to forget to mention that this movie theme song is actually writen by Vincent Fang.
Awesome!!! :) Totally salute him.

So guys, what is your rhythm of rain???

Food Hunt: Mugshot Cafe

 Today
after working out in the gym, we plan to go Mugshot Cafe for our breakfast. You probably will get curious over their shop's name--Mugshot cafe. Mugshot is actually a photograph of a person face especially for the use of police records. But why Mugshot??? I shall reveal it later.*winks*
I have been eagerly looking forward to go there since the 1st day they open, but usually when I pass by there for their well- known bagel, it is always out of stock!!! Argh!!!

When both of us reach there, we saw that the cafe is crowded but thank goodness their bagel haven't finish yet as their bagel is always selling fast. Immediately we find a place to slot in & enjoy our breakfast.

Check out what we have order :

Kiwi & Honey Yogurt (RM10.00)
When I 1st saw it, I though that the yogurt will taste plain & sour, but after my 1st scoop, the yogurt just surprise me as it is sweet! Shouldn't just judge the book by its cover. Hahaha.
After that I take another scoop together with the kiwi & honey  I can feel the freshness of kiwi, sweetness of honey & the yogurt blend perfectly inside my mouth,It somehow just refresh my taste bud before having the bagel.

Walnut & Raisins Yogurt (RM10.00)
When I taste another flavour of yogurt, it just give me a big WOW as the crunchiness of the walnut & the raisin combined so well together.....Sss-WEET!!!
This explain how well I like yogurt so much, simply yet nutritious. It really bring a great start for breakfast. :)

Bagel stuffed with Smoked Salmon & cream cheese (rm10.00)
The poppy seed coated bagel spreads with cream cheese and stuffed with a generous slice of smoked salmon.
The crispiness of bagel together with a mild scent of poppy seeds, the non satiation cream cheese & the smoked salmon it just bring a simple bagel to a higher
level.

Bagel stuffed with Bacon & Egg  (rm10.00)
The poppy seeds coated bagel spreads with butter and stuffed with egg wrapped with a slice of smoked bacon. Yummy!!! It is indeed an ideal breakfast for everyone as it include all element that is needed by our body.

As you can see, there is a small black stove behind the staff and that is where the yummy bagels are ''delivered'' from. The preparation of the bagel is actually right beside the bar and you can just have a sneak peak about the process of preparing the bagel while you are munching the bagel.

I totally agree that the bagel is great, but for coffee, we are not a coffee lover so we didn't go for the coffee.

After breakfast, I go deeper into the cafe & I discover something interesting-- A Yogurt Factory. I have been told by Boon How that their yogurt is actually homemade. No wonder it taste so ORIGINAL,as no preservatives is added into it.

Sesame coated Bagel (rm1.80)
This bagel is actually sell at the Rainforest Bakery which is next to the mugshot cafe. The price is reasonable and you can just buy a whole dozen of it & create your own style bagel as well. :)

Tadaa, our 1st mugshot!!! Hahaha how can you miss yours when you pay a visit to Mugshot Cafe???
It is a sign & signature to prove that you have visited  this cafe.

ME: Been charged for being way TOO HOT & SEXY~
Boon How: Been charged for being a SLUT!!!

Food Hunt: Moustache Houze

Recently
struggling because of my final exam , so busy until I can't update my blog. *sobs*

Last sunday, my friend is kind enough by bring me out to somewhere to chill up before I get overstressed by my final exam.

Guess what, my friend actually bring me to Moustache Houze to have some desserts (p/s:I'm a huge fan of dessert) and in the same time teach me how to capture picture using camera.

Moustache Houze

The tree of life.
I totally salute them for their creativeness and concept, it just bring soul & joy into this cafe.
Indeed, here is an ideal place for buddies or family gathering. The atmosphere is so warm & full of coffee's scent, all you have to do is just sit back & relax.

There is a variety of cakes for you to choose, look what we have order:

Blueberry & Peanut Butter Crepe Cake.(RM10.90)

The 3 element combine so well, the thick & creamy peanut butter,  freshness of the blueberry and the silky soft crepe cake just melt inside my mouth, tingling my taste bud.

Chestnut Crepe Cake (RM10.90)
The cake is having a strong flavour of chocolate, but this cake is my least favourite one as it is not as I expected because I can't even find any chestnut in the cake. It is simply like a chocolate crepe cake.

Green Tea Cheesecake (RM10.90)

The base of the cake is delicious but unfortunately the taste of the green tea is overwhelmed by the rich and creamy cheese. But overall the cake is delicious when you eat together with the base.

Raspberry Cheese Cake (RM11.90)
We just simply love Cheese Cake, but differ from the Green Tea Cheese Cake, although the flavour of the raspberry is strong but it does not overwhelmed the taste of the cheese.

Cappuccino Cheese Cake (RM10.90) & Yam Crepe Cake (RM10.90)
Another flavour of cheese cake but this one is in Cappuccino. When I take my first bite, I don't even feel like want to stop. The thick Cappuccino scent fill my entire mouth, I mean who can resist it??? Absolutely not me, I'm a total cheese lover.

For the yam crepe cake, it is something new to me so when I saw it, I immediately order it. It didn't fail me as the texture and taste is two thumbs up. The texture is same as the Peanut Butter & Blueberry Crepe Cake so soft and smooth and the yam flavour give an oomph to the cake.

Black Forest & Walnut Dome (RM11.90/piece)
The Black Forest cake have the rich chocolate flavour and there is some berries in between the layer of cakes add extra texture into the cake.

The Walnut Dome, ahh...... The cake is light and there is a generous amount of walnut in the cake. Not too creamy and not too sweet. This cake is  my friends favourite as she really like walnuts.

Ethiopian  Mocha.  (RM9.90)

When I saw the word ''mocha'' the first things that stuck in my mind is chocolate combine with coffee. Then I was told by the staff that Ethiopian Mocha is not a chocolate drinks, it is actually a coffee.  When I take my first sip, I can taste the bitterness of the coffee but in the same time I can also smell the strong aroma of chocolate. It just amaze me as this is my first time having such a wonderful mocha.

Hot Mocha (RM11.90)
I just simply fall in love with their Mocha when I order it for the 1st time. The mixture of the coffee & chocolate combine very well. Not too sweet and in the same time you can also taste a little bit of bitterness. This cup of things really show how skillful the barista is. I also heard from other peoples that their coffee is also very famous. Hmmm...I will be back for another round of different coffees.

Pineapple Cubes with Soda. (RM 12.90)

The pineapple cubes slowly dissolve in the soda and when you take a sip of it, the flavour is just like a firework "BOOM" inside your mouth!! The freshness of the pineapple just blast off your taste buds. The fruits cubes is their signature drinks.Beside pineapple cubes, they even serve a  few variety of fresh fruits cubes with soda. If fruits is not in your choice list, you can also choose chocolate or espresso cubes, as both of the cubes serve together with fresh milk.

I hope that I can capture all memories as they might just fade away someday.  :)

Overall, the comment to this cafe is: They serve fresh & yummy cakes as their cakes are rotated on daily basis, they serve different cakes everyday and yet the price is reasonable. Besides that, the staffs are friendly and polite, they even capture all pictures of their customers and put it at their facebook page.In addition, they also provide a few variety size of wooden moustache for the customers to capture pictures.Last but not least, the environment & atmosphere...... Fabulous!! I will be back for more unique taste of  cakes. *winks*
